Smoke in the building

 

16 April, 2008- Engine 6, Tanker 1, and Rescue 2 were dispatched to a possible house fire on Pico road just before midnight. F-3 Assistant Chief Bickham went on scene and advised there was no visible fire but had a smoke condition in the house. Upon arrival of all other units and further investigation it was discovered to be grease on the stove. Members checked for extension and ventilated the building. All units operated for about a half hour before returning to quarters.

Brush fire in our local

 

16 April, 2008- Today Engine 4 and Brush 1 responded to a possible brush fire on hwy 430 just outside city limits. Brush 1 and Engine 4 arrived to what they believed was small brush fire in the rear of a mobile home. Upon further investigation it was found to be much larger then originally thought. Because it was advancing deeper into the woods a 2nd Alarm was requested bringing in Engine 6 and District 3 firefighters for manpower. Due to rapid deployment and quick knock of the fire by the crew of Engine 4 and Brush 1 the fire was controlled. Engine 6 arrived and assisted Brush 1 with final extinguishment.  District 3 was cancelled upon their arrival. Units operated about an hour before returning to quarters.

Training Night

 

14 April, 2008- In preparation for our up and coming transition to handling medical calls on a first responder basis we held a CPR training class tonight. We will also be holding a First Responder Medical class in the very near future. Once all training is complete we will begin responding within the city limits for all medical emergencies. We will post this date when it becomes available.

Rekindle

 

13 April, 2008- Engine 6 was dispatched to a possible rekindle at the scene of the fire from the day before.  Engine 6 arrived to light smoke showing. Upon further investigation it was discovered that a bag of deer feed was smoldering. Engine 6 wet it down and returned to quarters within 30 minutes.

House Fire in our Service Area

 

12 April, 2008- Engine 6, Tanker 1, Rescue 1, and Rescue 2 were dispatched to a report of a house fire outside of the city limits in our service area. Before units left the station numerous calls were coming in that the house was on fire and that all occupants were out. Rescue 2 arrived on scene first to a double wide with heavy smoke all around and heavy fire in the rear. Once Engine 6 arrived hand lines were deployed to the front door and to the rear. Tanker 1 set up water supply. District 4 was requested for an additional tanker. Entry was made in the front but the team was pushed out due to heavy smoke and fire conditions and partial roof collapse.  Once all personal were out the decision was made to do a defensive attack. The fire was declared under control in about an hour, with all units returning after operating for about 3 hours.  (PICTURES COMING SOON)

Mutual Aid to District 8

 

14 March, 2008- Rescue 2, Tanker 1, and Engine 6 were dispatched to assist District 8 on a working mobile home fire. Units were in service for about an hour before returning to quarters.

Fatal house fire Update

10 March, 2008- Today the state fire marshal’s office advised that the fatal fire was now officially a double murder and an arson case. All persons having questions or information are asked to contact the state fire marshal’s office at 1-800-256-5452.

Double Fatal House Fire

8 March, 2008- (0630) the department was dispatched to a reported structure fire. Engine 4, Engine 6, and Tanker 1 made the response with 14 members. F-1 (Chief) had command. Units arrived to a fully involved structure with partial collapse of the roof and walls. It was unknown about the occupants where a bout’s. During overhaul we discovered 2 bodies in the debris. The scene was turned over to the state fire marshal’s office and the coroner to investigate.

Busy start to what looks to be a busy year!

 

26 Feb, 2008- Today marks a record year so far with 70 calls for service, 6 of which were working jobs and 1 extrication. On a training note, on the training page you will find links to the required Nims training, all members are required to complete this training and return a copy of the certificate from FEMA to the training officer. All members are reminded to think about safety first as the weather is getting warmer and the calls keep coming. As discussed we held are first work detail this past Saturday for some much needed station matinence and cleaning,  a great showing by all those who attended. We will have work details at least once every other month. Everyone is doing an excellent job so far and we need to keep up the good work.

Cupid brings 3 MVA’s and a structure

 

14 Feb, 2008-At 0730 (call# 53) Rescue 1 was dispatched to an MVA at Main and Boat Ramp rd. Upon arrival it was determined there was no injuries. The Rescue stood by for PD and the wrecker to clear the vehicles from the road. Rescue cleared and returned to quarters in about 30 minutes. Around 0930 the second call of the day was dispatched (#54). Engine 4 and Engine 3 were dispatched to Bene st. for a possible structure fire. Engine 4 arrived to smoke visible from the rear of the house. Upon further investigation it was found to be a fire in a shed that someone was using as an office. Engine 4 with F5 in command pulled a cross lay and quickly extinguished the fire. Command held the assignment to Engine 4 and returned all other companies. After lunch the Rescue was dispatched to more MVA’s there were no injuries and the Rescue was returned upon arrival both times. So far the department has responded to 56 calls this year, making it the busiest year so far.

Multiple brush fires

 

10 Feb, 2008-Today’s dry weather brought multiple brush fires, 3 in the same area. It started around lunch time and ended just after dinner time. As a reminder all property owners are asked to burn only when conditions permit and to remain in control of all fires they start. Also if a fire doe’s get out of hand they are asked to not delay and call 911 to allow for immediate response by the fire department.

Busy day in the little city

 

8 Feb, 2008-today the department ran 5 calls by dinner time. The day started with an MVA on HWY 430, Rescue 1, and Engine 4 made the response. Units arrived to a 2 car accident with a third being a hit and run, units assisted EMS on scene with patient care and were released a half hour later. About 45 minutes after the first MVA, Rescue 1 and Engine 4 were dispatched to another MVA, this time units arrived to no injuries or entrapment; and cleared shortly after arriving. The third call came in at lunch time, this time Engine 4 and Brush 1 were on the assignment for a brush fire. F-1 Had command and ordered Brush 1 in service to extinguish a small brush fire on 18th avenue. After clearing this scene Rescue 1 was dispatched on a medical. Dispatch advised that a man was choking; when units arrived they found a man in full cardiac arrest. The rescue assisted the ambulance crew with CPR and further lifesaving interventions. (At the time of writing this the man was revived and on his way to the Louisiana heart hospital) Just before dinner the fifth call came in for Rescue 1, it was another medical at the primary school. The rescue responded and assisted EMS with a three month pregnant women having abdominal problems, once the crew assisted EMS with patient packaging the rescue was returned to service. On a side note, both medical calls required the rescue driver to accompany the ambulance to the hospital.

Mutual Aid to the south side of the Parish

 

7 Feb, 2008- (Call #39) the department was dispatched to assist Washington Parish District 1 on a brush fire today. While in route, Brush 1 came across a second brush fire. Brush stopped and put out this fire while Engine 6 proceeded to the original call. Engine 6 arrived to a brush fire getting into a pine tree forest. Engine 6’s crew started to put out the fire. Brush 1 arrived after clearing the other scene and assisted in final extinguishment. While on this scene a passerby stopped to say there was another fire down the road. District 2 personnel along with district 1’s Engine proceeded to locate the fire. Nothing was found, and all units were cleared and returned to quarters.  Units making the response: Franklinton Engine 6, Brush 1, Washington District 1 Engine 1, Along with District 2 personnel in pov.

Smoke coming from multiple structures

 

6 Feb, 2008- (Call # 38) at 1410 hours the full department was dispatched to Pine Ridge Apartments for a possible structure fire. The apartments are an assisted living complex. Dispatch advised 911 caller stated fire and smoke visible from the roof. Rescue 1 arrived with light smoke visible from the buildings in the complex, along with 3 houses across the street. Rescue 1 with F-6 in command investigated and found that the smoke was caused by the city workers smoking out the sewers. Rescue 1 was held and all other company’s returned to quarters. Units making the response were Rescue 1, Engine 4, and Engine 3.

Severe Weather wakes up Volunteers

 

6 Feb, 2008- (Call # 37) At 0509 Rescue 1 (F-17 in command) was dispatched to a report of a tree down across the road on Harvey rd... Rescue 1 cleared the tree from the road and returned to quarters.

Minor Motor Vehicle Accident

5 Feb, 2008- (Call#36) At 1535 Engine 4 and Rescue 1 were dispatched to a report of a motor vehicle accident unknown injuries. The Chief (F-1) went on scene advising no injuries with some road blockage. Engine and Rescue stood by assisting PD till the road was cleared then returned to quarters.

5 Feb, 2008- (Call # 35) At 1335 the department was dispatched to the dollar general store for a smell of smoke. Rescue 1 and Engine 4 made the response. F-5 had command. Upon investigation it was determined that the city workers were fogging out the sewers and it vented thru the drains into the store . All units cleared within 10 minutes.

MVA with Entrapment on LA Hwy 10

3 Feb, 2008- (Call# 34) 10:42 am Rescue 1 and Engine 6 were dispatched to a 2 car MVA with possible entrapment. Rescue 1 arrived on scene to a 2car accident involving a full size van verse a full size car. The two occupants in the van needed extrication. Upon arrival of the Engine, crews went to work popping the drivers and passengers doors to gain access . Once the doors were poped units stood by assisting EMS. All units cleared the scene around 12:35pm. Units making the response were: Rescue 1, Rescue 2, Engine 6, and the Chief (F-1) who had command.
